Cygnus Support - Counselling Services

Cygnus Support has been helping people in Northumberland for over 35 years with their mental health and wellbeing. Cygnus offers a range of services focusing on mental health and emotional wellbeing, provided by trained and qualified staff. These services include counselling, coaching, online psycho-educational tools, and social prescribing provided by our Community Link Workers.

Our core counselling services offer space to allow people to talk about their problems, time to explore thoughts and feelings and to create coping strategies or action plans. The focus is on working collaboratively with clients to support their needs and empower them to make positive changes or to heal and recover from past life events.

Cygnus also has a dedicated Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (DA/SV) counselling service, for both adults and children, funded by the Office of Police and Crime Commissioners (OPCC).

Who can use this service?

Any resident in Northumberland aged 14+ can access the services.

How are services delivered?

We operate a blended approach and are able to deliver counselling support both in-person or remotely via telephone/video call(s).

We deliver face-to-face counselling at our office which is based in Ashington. Ocassionally, we may operate from hubs in Hexham, Berwick, Alnwick and Blyth, although this is dependent on counsellor availability at the time.

Face-to-face appointments will be available where need, risk or vulnerability is identified, with appropriate safety measures taken by both staff and clients.
